Central Middle School learns all about birds

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Central Middle School students were treated to a free flying bird show.

A slew of different birds were shown off, courtesy of the Sutton Avian Research Center, as part of an interactive program to teach science, art and history. Some of the birds were exotic species, but many were native to the United States and right here in Oklahoma including hawks, owls and even cranes.

Ryan Vanzandt, the Director of Education at the research center, said the birds highlight the beauty of our state, "A lot of the times when you show something beautiful, you automatically think it must be from Africa or Australia or something like that, but we like to show that we have some really beautiful wildlife right here in Oklahoma for people to experience."

The program travels to schools throughout the sooner state.
