Summer Youth Job Fair to provide summer opportunities

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Money is not the only thing high schoolers can get out of a summer job.

Experts we spoke with today tell us summer jobs give high schoolers a chance to  learn how to be dependable.

"Helps them learn about responsibilities, being at a specific place, which is work on time, making sure they don't miss work, so they are punctual and always there on time and it also give them a feel of what it's like to be in the workforce," said Steve Cross who is a Program Manager at Workforce Solutions Panhandle.

Summer jobs can also teach them how to be on time and more dependable. Along with exposing them to an actual working environment.

"A lot of jobs for young people are customer service, so it's going to expose them to a variety of customers and a variety of behaviors and I think customer service and almost any job could be critical to their success in any job in the future," Cross said.

Workforce Solutions Panhandle will be hosting their first Summer Youth Job Fair tomorrow.

It's open to anyone ages 15 to 26 and will be from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Amarillo College Community Link which is located at 2412 North Grand Street.

There will be over 20 employers hiring for full-time, part-time and seasonal positions.

The event is FREE and applicants should bring their resume and "Dress for Success" and be prepared for interviews.
