2nd annual trout fishing festival

MEDICINE PARK, Okla._ Fishermen of all ages flocked to the banks of Medicine Park to catch a trophy trout Saturday.

It was all a part of the 2nd Annual Trout Fishing Festival.

"My first fish," Kansas Quast said.

For father, Steven Quast, Saturday was about more than fishing, or even getting a meal.

Saturday he got to see his daughter, Kansas, and son, Alexander, catch their first fish.

"For me, I've been fishing my whole life so being able to be out here and do that with them and see this first fish, it was almost like seeing them walk again for the first time," Quast said.

It'll be a memory Kansas will never forget, but for now she's just excited she got it reeled in.

"It was hard because that was a fighting fish," Kansas said.

For the organizer of the festival, Jimmy Miller, family is what the festival is all about.

"Getting the kids to fish and getting them outdoors instead of being home on the weekends, and also just so they can spend time outdoors is a big thing. The parents if you look around right now you'll see the banks are just lined with parents and their kids," Miller said.

With the event being free Miller said it is aimed at families, but they do have those competitive fishermen that also come out.

"There are people who came out before dark this morning (Saturday) because they wanted to catch the big fish. they knew the big catch was there and they wanted to catch that fish," Miller said.

For the Quast family they may not be walking away with the trophy fish, but the day was certainly not lost.

"Memory I'll never forget," Quast said.
