Neighborhood water pipes burst due to the cold

LAWTON, Okla._The freezing temperatures are to blame for another water pipe that exploded in a west Lawton neighborhood sending water shooting into the air Sunday.

As the water shot into the air it instantly froze to everything in its path on northwest 78th street. One of the neighborhood trees is now sagging under the weight of the ice. Birget Hutching said it was not like anything she has seen before, "It froze instantly. It wasn't like water or rain. It was like someone was throwing ice on top of the tree. And it kept going. It's crazy. It's bad." The water pipe break left residents in the area without water for hours.

At least three other water lines burst in the same neighborhood, covering everything in a thick sheet of ice.
