Lawton motel shooting ruled a homicide

LAWTON, Okla__ A shooting that occurred Friday night at a northwest Lawton hotel room has now been ruled a homicide.

Johnny Allen and a friend were staying at the Super 8 Hotel just west I-44 and Indian Trail Rd. Police said just before 8 p.m. Friday, the door to the room was left open when a masked man, armed with a gun, walked in and ordered the men to the ground.

A fight started when the victims refused to comply. During the fight one of the victim's was shot several times in what police believe was a botched robbery attempt.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead around midnight Saturday morning.

While searching the neighborhood an incident occurred with a short chase resulting in a male being arrest, but at this time police are unsure if the man had any involvement.

The suspect was described by Allen's friend as a black male, around 5'9 and thin build wearing a scarf over his face.

Police said the victims are contract workers and are not from Lawton.
