Forecasters warn of extreme fire risk in Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The National Weather Service says Oklahoma is at an extreme risk of wildfires on Tuesday, thanks to warm, windy and dry conditions.

A red flag warning is in effect from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of Oklahoma. The area at high risk of fires includes parts of central Oklahoma hit by grassfires on Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the blazes Monday afternoon in Edmond and southwest of Oklahoma City. One building burned but no one was injured in the grassfires.

The National Weather Service says much of Oklahoma, including the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas, will see temperatures approaching 80 degrees Tuesday with winds gusting up to 50 mph.
