Youngsters cook up creative creations

Lawton, OKLA._ Elementary school students from across LPS participated in a cooking competition Tuesday afternoon geared at promoting healthy eating habits.

Young and aspiring chefs competed against one another to create a sandwich recipe based on nutritional values as well as creativity. The event was sponsored by the food service company Sodexo and was designed to get students thinking about eating a healthy diet.

"The creativity of the children is really just blowing everybody else away," said Tony Shepard, with Sodexo. "You know, it's wonderful. It really is. These kids are learning. It's amazing what you can learn, and it's amazing how much time they put into it."

A picture of the winning sandwich will be submitted into the online regional competition.

Yesterday, with just one day left in the legislative session, the Governor Mary Fallin held a press conference in a last-ditch effort to convince Representative Scott Biggs (R) Grady County, to hear four criminal reform bills that she said would reduce the prison population by keeping more non-violent offenders out of prison, saving the state $200-million a year.
