Public welcome to attend “pitch-off” by Project DREAM finalists

LAWTON, Okla._Four southwest Oklahoma entrepreneurs have been selected to vie for the Project DREAM title.

The finalists were among those who submitted their business ideas to Project DREAM, an initiative of Cameron University's Center for Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurial Studies and part of the statewide Dream Big Oklahoma initiative. The finalists will pitch to a panel of experts who will determine the winner(s), who could win up to $5,000 to pursue their business. The winning selection will also be eligible to compete for a statewide grand prize. The presentations will take place on Friday, March 14 at 3 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center and is open to the public.

The finalists are Meegan McKay, Altus; Pat Nettles-Page, Lawton; Dana Southall, Blair; and Richard Stanton, Fletcher. Below are their proposals as submitted to the Project DREAM website.

Meegan McKay – Artes pro Vita Academy

"Artes pro Vita Academy is an online life skills curriculum offering an education and support community to people of all ages in pursuit of optimal living. AVA is a start-up company seeking funding to purchase software and equipment, continue product development and use as working capital."

Pat Nettles-Paige – PNP Enterprises (Educational Gaming)

"Our business is to explore, research, and develop an educational learning game using advance technology and Augmented Reality. Teaching, Assessment and Learning through History Gaming and Augmented Reality or Advance Technology (TALHGAR or TALHGAT) is an innovative way to teach, provide a meaningful learning experience to solidify and influence learning."

Dana Southall – The Stitchin' Shop

"The Stitchin' Shop began in the back room of our home with a single needle portable embroidery machine. It didn't take long for me to realize that there was a need and demand for the items I was creating! Still working in the back room of our home, my next purchase was a multi-needle machine. At this point, I was driving the hundred miles a day to my full-time job and coming home every night to work on orders that had slowly started to trickle in. And then the orders began coming in faster and faster. The Stitchin' Shop has grown from a single needle machine in the back room to two multi-needle machines, a store front, and screen printing! If awarded the grant, I would use the funds to purchase a newer model used machine as well as additional equipment and software needed to help my business grow."

Richard Stanton - Peter Rabbits Natural (Fiber Mill)

"Currently we raise sheep and goats on our 160-acre farm in Fletcher. In the fall, we grow pumpkins and sell hay. We are applying for this contest because we have noticed a huge need for a fiber mill in southwest Oklahoma. In recent years, the production of natural fibers in Oklahoma has exploded with the popularity of alpaca and llamas and the traditional fibers of Oklahoma raised sheep and goats. Independent fiber mills that service family-owned farms are hard to find. Currently, there is only one fiber mill in Oklahoma. The owners of the Durant Milling Plant want to sell their mill and retire. We would like to expand this mill by moving the operation to our farm in Fletcher. The move would create additional jobs and bring a much needed expansion of natural fiber milling to the entire state."
