Duncan students raised more than they expected

DUNCAN, Okla._In just four days, Duncan High School was able to raise more than $30,000!

The money raised was all part of a student council lead program called "Leggo Week." Students plan to use the money to help make prom special for their special education students by taking care of expenses including transportation, dinner and attire. For many, like the Student Council Advisor, Tereasa Vachon, the outpouring of support was overwhelming.

"I just feel so blessed that I could do this for these families because I know what it's like to have medical bills and have a handicapped child," said Vachon.

And the Duncan Demons didn't stop with the prom idea; they raised enough to help a seventh grader with cerebral palsy and a former Duncan High School student who lost his sight to a rare disease.

All told, the students were able to raise $31,154.42. Their original goal was $20,000.
