Store clerk confronts thief and gets stolen merchandise back

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._In an effort to recover stolen merchandise a Lawton gas station clerk grabbed a man by the neck after he stole two packs of cigarettes.

The incident was captured by the southwest Lawton convenient store's surveillance video near 11th and Tennessee.

The video shows the man walk up to the counter with the cigarettes before concealing them. He then told the clerk he wasn't going to pay for them and left.

The clerk chased the man outside into the store's parking lot, where she grabbed him by the neck until he handed over the items and walked away.

"He was shocked. He did not know I was on his behind. I snatched him backwards and it was a reaction like "Oh crap, this woman gone grab me. You know, it was like a grab and turn at the same time to get him face to face with me, you're going to know you're going to give me my stuff back," said gas station clerk Melinda Kelly.

The man did not resist and returned the items.
