Two arrested following after police chase

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ The search for a passenger involved in another police chase Friday evening is over, and the driver and passenger both remained behind bars Saturday.

Albert Tyson was caught and arrested Friday evening when he stopped his car in a yard and ran from police with his passenger.

After his arrest, Tyson identified the passenger as Stephen Smith who was later arrested at his home.

The chase started in northwest Lawton around 4:30 p.m. Friday just south of Rogers Lane near 38th Street and Santa Fe.

Police tried to stop the two men when the driver was spotted not wearing a seatbelt.

Instead of stopping, Tyson led police on a chase that lasted about 10 minutes. The chase included running a red light at the intersection of 38th Street and Cache Road and barely missing a gas pump and police car as they cut through a parking lot.

A bag containing 113 grams of marijuana was thrown from the vehicle during the chase.

Both Tyson and Smith remain in the city jail on multiple charges related to eluding police and possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
