Officer involved shooting at Northwest Texas Hospital

Amarillo, TX - Updated information on the officer involved shooting at Northwest Texas Hospital Tuesday night.

According to APD, at 10:30 p.m. officers were originally responding to a call on a possible assault.

While police were there, they recognized a man leaving the hospital who was subject to another investigation. Police say the officers went to the parking lot to talk to the man and saw that he was in a vehicle being driven by a female.  

According to police, the officer approached the vehicle ordering the driver to stop. They say the driver then revved the engine and drove the vehicle directly at the officer. This prompted the officer to open fire on the vehicle, hurting one of the occupants in the car. We're told there are no life threatening injuries. 

APD identifies the driver as 25 year-old Leighann Griffin. She was booked into the Potter County Correction Center for Aggravated Assault against a Peace Officer, a warrant for theft by check out of Randall County; and a traffic warrant issued by the City of Amarillo.

    The Caprock Hi-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Texas Anti-Gang Center charged 20 people with federal drug conspiracy and other drug charges. This comes after a multi-county raid on Thursday.
