Camaraderie and attention to detail built through rock climbing

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._A group of Ft. Sill soldiers said they do it as a team building exercise, because it takes attention to detail, strength, and trust when scaling a rock wall.

Rock climbing is a hobby Sergeant Sean Henry has fallen in love with over the past four months.

"Up! You wanna go up! You're going to want to come down eventually but that's on your terms, mostly you want to go up," said Sgt. Henry.

Sgt. Henry was introduced to rock climbing by First Lieutenant Jeshurun Plumb

"I got into it and I really enjoyed it and I thought other people would enjoy coming out here too. So I just put the word out to everyone, my battery, saying hey if you are interested feel free to come along, and let's go climb some rocks," said 1st Lt. Plumb.

Rock climbing allows them to build camaraderie and work on team building skills in a more intimate setting.

"So every day we are constantly challenging each other to be more cohesive as a team, we are training, things like that. So coming out here just expounds upon that in a different way, in a little different environment," said 1st Lt. Plumb.

Plus it's a great way to stay in shape, mentally and physically.

"So this gives you the opportunity to face your fears, push yourself physically and mentally and do it with people you enjoy being around," said Sgt. Henry.

Lieutenant Plumb says he will keep inviting soldiers because the skills learned while rock climbing are priceless.
