Apple rose 1 percent after The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was in talks with the giant cable provider Comcast about a video-streaming service. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 36 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,333 in the first few minutes of trading Monday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was little changed at 1,865. The Nasdaq composite edged down 23 points, or 0.5 percent, to 4,253. Three stocks rose for every two that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. European markets were mostly lower. Bond prices fell.
