Near Walters- We're learning more about a Wichita Falls man in serious condition at last check after slamming into a bridge on I-44 south of Walters.

It happened Tuesday night around 7:30 near mile marker 16. Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 59-year-old Henry Fowler fell asleep, veered off the interstate and hit a guardrail in the southbound lanes before crashing into the bridge. Fowler was pinned in the pickup for 45 minutes before first responders were able to cut him out with the jaws of life. He was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital with head, arm and internal injuries.

LAWTON, Okla._ The driver of a pickup truck remains hospitalized following a head-on collision Tuesday.

Troopers were called to I-44 mile marker 16, just south of Walters where the driver collided into a bridge just after 8 p.m.

Troopers said the driver veered off the interstate while in the westbound lane and drove a few hundred feet over a grassy hill before slamming into the bridge. The man was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Following the accident, investigators remained on scene while inspecting the bridge for damage.

One lane of the turnpike was closed just over an hour. The cause of accident has not been determined.
