Box City kicks off tonight to raise homeless awareness

LAWTON, Okla._The 2014 Box City is underway at Cameron University, where over one hundred people will spend Friday night in a box.

Family Promise puts on the annual event to raise awareness of homeless children and their families. Right now, there are more than 500 homeless children registered in Lawton Public Schools. The Executive Director of Family Promise Lawton, Edwina Reddick-Scott, is excited to kick off Friday night's event.

"We are excited about it. We have a lot of people on the ground right now getting their boxes ready for the night. We have soldiers on the ground that's helping everyone put things together. Actually soldiers are helping me decorate my house for tonight. So we are very excited about it," said Reddick-Scott.

Mostly everyone decorates their boxes from dragons, to cupcakes, to whatever they can come up with.
