Posted: Updated:

Lawton- It's Thursday, but 35 years ago, this date became known as "Terrible Tuesday." That's when dozens of tornadoes ripped through Wichita Falls, Lawton and Vernon.

The storms on April 10th 1979 left more than 50 dead, and over eight-thousand homeless in the region. The Wichita Falls twister registered as an F-4. The Lawton tornado measured as an F-3 as it rumbled through the southeast portion of the city. It's the last time the heart of Texoma was hit by a significant tornado.
