Gang prevention seminar brings Lawton leaders together

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Leaders from the Lawton area came together at city hall to find ways to combat gangs and gang violence.

Lieutenant Rob Harding is an investigator for the Lawton Correctional Facility. He says getting the community together to fight gangs is a great start. There are over 2,200 registered known gang members in the Lawton/Fort Sill area. Officials believe there could be as many as 6,000 total.

"You'll see individuals or small groups of people coming together trying to make an effort, but with Lawton being a very large city, and with the current air of so much gang involvement with youth and whatnot, that it's going to take a huge concerted effort as opposed to what we previously have seen," said Lt. Harding.

Harding also says he hopes this meeting will help reduce gang violence in Lawton.
