Competency trial for man charged in teen's death

Posted: Updated:

DUNCAN, Okla._ A competency trial for a Velma man charged with killing a teenager back in 2012 is scheduled to start Monday at the Stephens County Courthouse.

Miles Bench, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 2012 death of 16-year-old Braylee Henry. Defense attorneys asked for the competency exam to determine if Bench is fit to stand trial.

Prosecutors say Bench killed Henry after she stopped to buy gas at the convenience store where Bench worked. Her body was found in a pasture in Velma near the home of Bench's grandparents, where bench was living at the time.
