Students evacuated when smoke filled the school

LAWTON, Okla._Students at Tomlinson Middle School were evacuated after reports of smoke inside the building.

The 800 students were evacuated for about 10 minutes Wednesday afternoon. School officials explained that a fan motor in an air conditioning unit malfunctioned and sent smoke into the school, setting off the fire alarm. Some of the students were starting to take a state mandated test when it happened but luckily they were only in the instructing phase so no harm done.

Fire fighters responded quickly and fixed the problem. The air conditioning unit is being looked at and will be replaced if necessary.
