Annual Rattlesnake Festival starts 31st year

Posted: Updated:

APACHE, Okla._If snakes are your thing, then Apache is where you want to be this weekend for the 31st Annual Apache Rattlesnake Festival.

The festival is expected to attract 50,000 visitors this year. Snake lovers can either take a hands-on approach or watch them safely from behind glass. There are also hundreds of vendors, a carnival, a powwow and the most popular attraction, the snake pit. Fang Master, Ron Orf, says the festival is great for Apache's economy.

"Everything we make goes back into the town, school, fire department, police department, somebody's house burns down, we'll give them $1,000. We like to help people," said Orf.

The festivities continue through Sunday with free music both Friday and Saturday night.
