One year anniversary of Michael Carter's death

Posted: Updated:
ALTUS, Okla_Almost one year after her son was gunned down inside his west Lawton apartment, his mother continues to search for justice and closure. 22 year old Michael Carter was found fatally shot on April 25 of last year. The murder has yet to be solved.

She wants justice for her son's murder. Justice that will help her and Michael's family cope with the loss of someone they still hold very close to their hearts.
"That was really devastating to find out your son was dead, by going to Facebook,” said Carter.

Two thirty in the morning on April 226 2013, a mom finds out she lost her son. Carter said, "The police hadn't had a chance to call me or anything, so I was just devastated, in shock, and didn't really believe it at first."

Michael Carter moved to Lawton from Altus two months before his death, something his mom was worried about.  Carter explained, "I came out and told him, Lawton is really dangerous. Every time on the news you hear about someone getting murdered or shot and he said mom don't worry about me. I am moving to the good part of town."

That tragic shooting left Michael dead, a family devastated, and a mom grieving. She is still trying to understand why he was taken so young.  Carter said, "I'm devastated and hurt of course still. I am Just angry because i know that whoever did this is still out there and hadn't been arrested and i want justice for him and our family."

They say time heals all wounds, but right now, a year later, and for the years to come, there will be a missing piece in that mom's life. "I miss his smile, his laugh; he was just fun and loving. He was a mama's boy and he loved his mama,” said Carter. And that mama loves her boy, but misses him, every second of every minute of every hour. He may not be here on earth, but he will always be with his mom.

She still talks to him. Carter said, "I tell him how much I miss him and how much I love him and how proud I was of the young man he was becoming. I just let him know that I miss him."
