Okla. climatologist to speak on drought's impact

Posted: Updated:
ALTUS, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma's state climatologist is scheduled to speak in Altus this week on how the ongoing drought is impacting the area.

Tuesday's event with Gary McManus of the Oklahoma Climatological Survey will be at the Southwest Technology Center. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Altus is located in southwestern Oklahoma, part of the state experiencing the worst of the drought, which began late last summer and intensified through the winter.

Only a small area of southeastern Oklahoma is not in drought conditions, while the remainder of the state ranges from abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions.

The state's climatological survey reported that the latest April through June weather outlook offers no clues as to the amount of rain the state can expect to receive during the spring.
