County jail may lose half million per year

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._The plans to remove state inmates from county jails could have a hard impact in Comanche County.

In the weekly commissioner's meeting, William Hobbs, the jail administrator, said removing the inmates could take away half a million dollars in revenue. As of now, the jail gets $27.00 per day to house DOC inmates but the new state director of the DOC wants to move the inmates to work centers and halfway houses. This would cause the county jail to figure out how to fill the half a million dollar gap in their $3.4 million budget.

County officials from across the state will be protesting the decision at the State Capitol on Tuesday.
