Altus police credit witness for 3 burglary arrests

Posted: Updated:
Altus- Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy is crediting an alert citizen with helping solve several home burglaries.

APD says the witness saw three juveniles looking into a home's windows on Ash Street on Monday. Officers caught up with them a couple of blocks away. Police later learned the house on Ash had the back door kicked in, but the homeowner said nothing was missing. The suspects, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were taken into custody. Investigators say they later learned the three had committed several home burglaries over the past weeks. So far, police say they've recovered jewelry, electronics, coins and a handgun

"For the second time in just a few days the Altus police department has a citizen to thank for getting involved and reporting suspicious activity," said Chief Murphy. "This witness led us to the arrests of 3 juveniles and eventually the recovery of thousands of dollars of stolen property. My gratitude goes out to that individual who called and reported the suspicious activity."

The juvenile suspects were charged with 2nd degree burglary and possession of stolen property.
Altus police expect to make more arrests as the investigation continues.
