Suspected home intruder shot by homeowner

MOUNTAIN PARK, Okla._An attempted home invasion in Mountain Park overnight ended with the suspect being shot after trying to attack the homeowner.

The home invasion happened in the 200 block of south "S" just before midnight Tuesday when the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office was called to check on an attempted home invasion. The homeowner says he was awakened by a knock at the door and when he opened it, a man hit him in the head with a large metal pipe. Authorities say the homeowner shot the suspect several times.

The suspect then went back to his home several blocks away and called the sheriff's department saying he'd been shot. He was flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City with possible life-threatening injuries. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.

At this time, no one has been arrested or charged and no names have been released.
