Cameron hosts annual criminal justice conference

LAWTON, Okla._Dr. McShane from the University of Houston was at Cameron University as the keynote speaker for the annual criminal justice conference.

Cameron University hosted the eighth Annual Conference of Oklahoma Criminal Justice Association where educators and students came together to talk about the future of the criminal justice field in our society and how it is changing. Dr. Marilyn McShane was the keynote speaker; she says there are issues that they are challenged with in criminal justice in the present that will change the future.

"I think criminal justice keeps expanding and we need a lot more resources and a lot more focus on education and maybe specialization to meet those challenges today," said Dr. McShane, Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Houston.

Mcshane says criminal justice has expanded by quite a bit with things such as the TSA, terrorism, homeland security and environmental policing. McShane believes these things create more laws which need to be enforced which also means there are more criminals and victims.

Students from the Criminal Justice Department also presented papers and posters to the organization.
