Amarillo Hosts Narcotic Detector Dog National Conference

Posted: Updated:
Amarillo, TX - Police officers and canines from all across the country are calling Amarillo home this week for the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association Conference.

While the conference is nothing new, Amarillo is offering even more training modules than any other national event ever has and some that many of these officers and dogs have never seen before.

From your typical suitcases, cars, and home structures to a first in national conference history with the use of airplanes, the dogs and their handlers are getting some of the best, hands-on training opportunities during this year's NNDDA conference. Corporal Cody Lavery helped organized this year's conference and is proud to showcase Amarillo's unique training facilities.

Training drug dogs isn't a cheap task and comes with a hefty price tag. Training for a drug dog can cost anywhere from $10,000- $17,000.

The conference will wrap up on Friday with an intense narcotic detector competition between all the dogs to see who gets top dog title honors.
