Local food pantry needs public's help

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ One food pantry here says they need the public’s help as they work to expand their services to the less fortunate around southwest Oklahoma.

The House of Bread Ministries food bank says their shelves are bare and donations from the community are becoming less frequent. The pantry offers canned goods, meats and even hygiene products to families and individuals in need.

The pantry is helping out 10-15 families a week, many of whom travel from outside the city.

“It doesn’t take long for it to start going down again,” says Bernell Caraway, pastor. “We try to get built up, but then people start calling you. Some of them have big families. By the time we get through, it's back to square one.”

For those who would like to help support the House of Bread’s operation with a food donation, they can contact Caraway at (580) 248-8519 or drop off their donations to the church at 1415 SW Wisconsin Ave.
