Haynes withdraws competency hearing request

LAWTON, Okla._There has been a delay in the preliminary hearing for a man accused of stabbing and killing his wife back in January.

Herbert Haynes withdrew his request for a competency hearing Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors claim Haynes killed his wife inside a local motel where the two were living. Two weeks ago, Haynes' attorney filed for the competency hearing, despite objections from the state. However, for an undisclosed reason, Haynes withdrew the request. He told the judge he was able to understand his charge of second-degree murder and then requested his preliminary hearing be reset.

It is now set for July 8.

1/29/2014 Haynes is officially charged with murder in the second degree
