Eisenhower Middle School students raise money for Special Olympics

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Around 600 students at Eisenhower Middle School are sending their classmates to compete in the Special Olympics and they’re doing it one step at a time.

The students took part in a walk-a-thon to raise enough money to cover the costs of the trip. This year, 16 special needs athletes are going to Stillwater to compete, that's double the number last year. Eisenhower teachers couldn't be more excited about the helpfulness of their students.

"They asked their teachers this morning 'is this really for us?' and it was just such a great feeling to know that they're excited and to know that the profits go to help them next week while they're participating," said Amy Jenkins, 8th grade teacher

The games begin on May 13 and will end on May 15 in Stillwater.
