LAWTON, Okla._A man was hospitalized after being assaulted at a Lawton Walmart Wednesday evening.

Lawton police were called to the Walmart on Sheridan Road in response to a man with a head injury after being assaulted. Witnesses and bystanders directed police inside the store, saying that was where the suspect was being held. Police then made contact with William Hart who claimed the victim stopped in front of him with shopping carts while he was skating. After Hart and the victim nearly ran into each other, the victim dismissed the incident and attempted to continue on his way. Hart told the officer, due to the incident, he struck the victim with his skateboard.

Two of the witnesses informed police that the victim was walking away from Hart when Hart approached him and proceeded to hit the man with the skateboard from behind. One of the witnesses also stated that Hart tried to leave the area after hitting the victim.

Due to his injuries, the victim was unable to speak to officers at the scene. They were also unable to interview him in the hospital later on after the victim started having seizures.

Hart was arrested and taken to the city jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
