Give-a-way brings in $20K for new playground

LAWTON, Okla_ One lucky person is $10,000 richer Saturday, and all they had to do was support a great cause!

Leadership Lawton teamed up with Jim Norton Toyota to have a fundraiser to help build playground equipment for special needs students at Swinney Elementary School. The school has 21 special needs kids, most being severely handicapped. To win the $10,000 people were able to buy tickets at $100, and 301 were sold, bringing a $20,000 profit to the great cause.

"The greatest thing is that due to other fundraisers and other generous donations within our community, we were already over our minimum goal, which was $20,000 dollars, and so with this fundraiser we have raised over $43,000 towards our project," said Brandi Whatley of Leadership Lawton.

The playground is set to be ready before school starts back up with a completion date of July.

There is still ways to help, they have another fundraiser May 31 with a 5K in Medicine Park, for more details click here.
