Annual Armed Forces Day Parade

Posted: Updated:
LAWTON, Okla_ The men and women of our nation's military were honored in a big way Saturday throughout Lawton.
The Annual Armed Forces Day Parade kicked off Saturday morning, and thousands lined up along city streets to
honor our local soldiers and veterans.

They got to see military vehicles going down the streets, soldiers marching, and large amounts of candy for all the kids.

"There was a million candies all over the street!," Justin Johnson said.
The Rieker family came down from Indiana to see their son, Baron, graduate from basic training, and when hitch in their flights made them stay an extra day they decide to see the parade.

"It was great!  We don't have a lot of active duty military bases where we are so we don't get to see this kind of vehicles and things.  So it was cool, it was real cool," Greg Rieker said.

Baron makes the fourth child for Greg and Julie to join the military giving Armed Forces Day more of a special meaning to them.

"We're real privileged that they decided to serve their country.  Just a huge honor that they all decided to do it on their own," Julie Rieker said.

For Baron the parade gave him a first hand experience on how Lawton honors those who choose to serve their country.

"I feel privileged.  People coming up to you, shaking your hand, saying thank you for your service.  It just really means something," Baron Rieker said.
"I feel real proud to be an American. It's still the best country in the world," Greg said.
