Driver slams truck into telephone pole

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Officers were called out to a hit and run Tuesday evening when a truck hit and snapped a power pole before the driver and passenger reportedly ran off.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle was northbound on 38th Street and swerved to avoid orange cones that were in the street before losing control and hitting the power pole. The driver and passenger then reportedly got out of the vehicle and began stuffing their pockets before they hurried away. Both witnesses claim the two men ran southbound into the Park Ridge neighborhood.

Once police arrived they were shown a baggie that allegedly fell out of one of the suspect’s pockets along with papers that had blood on it; the baggie contained blue and white pills. The witnesses told police that both of the men appeared to have bloody noses and busted mouths, they also described them as young white males, skinny and between 5’9” and 5’10”.

A short time later a woman arrived at the accident scene and informed police that her boyfriend had asked her to check out the accident because he believed that it might be his recently stolen truck. While she was talking to police, three men and another woman walked up to the scene, one of the men in the group was the owner of the truck. He told police that his truck had been recently stolen for the second time and thought it might have been the same person who had stolen it before.

By the time the officer had finished talking to the owner the truck had been towed away from the pole and power lines and could be safely checked for seat belt use and air bag deployment. During the search a purple and yellow box caught the officer’s attention. The box contained 40 grams of marijuana individually wrapped in 10 bundles.

The marijuana, along with the four suspected Valium pills and the four suspected Xanax pills found in the baggie, was taken to the police station and placed on a property receipt.

No arrests have been made but police do have an idea of who the driver was.
