Sunset Memorial Gardens holds Memorial Day service

LAWTON, Okla._At Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, organizations from around the area presented wreaths to honor those who have passed away in our military.

State Representative Ann Coody also gave a speech and recognized those who have to endure the ultimate sacrifice, the family members of our fallen soldiers. She urged the crowd to not forget those who have fallen at each war and conflict the U.S. has been in.

"We have so many from this area who have given their lives in service to our country so that we could live in this free land and have the wonderful life of freedom that we have," said Rep Coody (R) Lawton.

This was the 26th year the Sunset Memorial Gardens has held a Memorial Day ceremony.

An Oklahoma Forestry Services task force is joining the fight against a wildfire in Kiowa County. It's burning about 17 miles southwest of Quartz Mountain State Park. They're calling it the "Flat Top" fire. The last update shows the fire has consumed about 70 acres. The O.F.S. says the biggest problem is that fire is burning in rough terrain. Local fire departments, including Blair and Martha are among those fighting it.
