Accused cattle rustler turns himself in

Posted: Updated:

MANGUM, Okla._A man from Martha, Okla., has turned himself in after being charged with Larceny of Domestic Animals.

Dustin Mitchell Cooper, 30, allegedly stole 10 calves from pens in Greer County in September 2013. The calves are valued at approximately $10,000. According to Special Ranger Ben Eggleston from the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Cooper sold the 10 calves at the Hobart Stock Yards under the name of D Cross C Ranch.

“This area has been a hotbed for cattle theft over the past few years,” said Eggleston. “Ranchers need to make sure they are branding their livestock and reporting stolen cattle to TSCRA.”

Cooper has been released on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced up to ten years in prison.
