Man charged with child abuse after slapping 3-year-old girl

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton man remains in jail after he told his girlfriend he lost his cool and slapped her 3-year-old daughter across the face.

Police were called to Comanche County Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening to investigate the incident.

The toddler's mother told police she came home after her boyfriend, Isiah Kaio, texted her he had just, quote, lost it, with her daughter and to come home. When she did, she saw her daughter had a bruise in the shape of a hand print on her face, and when she asked her boyfriend what happened, Kaio told her she was crying because she didn't want to take a nap and he slapped her.

The mother took the girl and the couple's other child to the hospital. Doctor's said the injury was not life-threatening.

Kaio was arrested at his apartment and was charged with a felony count of child abuse by injury and will return to court for his preliminary hearing August 11.
