Amarillo, TX - The Director of Amarillo Animal Control has stepped down.

It has been confirmed by the city that suspended director Mike McGee retired from his position effective Friday, May 30th.. 

Early this afternoon sources inside Animal Control say that McGee packed up his office and said his good-byes.

It was seven weeks ago that McGee and Assistant Director Shannon Barlow were first put on leave.
 
Both McGee and Barlow were suspended amid an investigation into alleged illegal euthanasia procedures.
 
The case is being investigated by the Grand Jury, they are expected to wrap up in two weeks. At that time we'll find out who will or will not face criminal indictments in this case.
 
The crimes they're being investigated for are Class B misdemeanors which are punishable by up to six months in prison and a 2,000 dollar fine for each count.

Amarillo, TX – The City of Amarillo is confirming that Animal Control Director Mike McGee has announced his retirement, effective Friday.Scott McDonald, the City’s Chief Building Official, continues to serve as interim director.

The City will continue moving forward with improvements at the animal shelter, including offering expanded hours on Saturday and a new website feature designed to reunite lost pets with their owners.
