Lawton plans fiscal year 2015 budget

LAWTON, Okla._The city's budget for fiscal year 2015, which begins July 1, was discussed at Friday morning's meeting.

While there were no major concerns addressed, City Manager Bryan Long says the passage of the capital improvement project is important in order to free up funds to give two-thirds of the city's general workers a pay increase. Those employees have gone more than four years without a raise.

"We want to take care of our lower end. Management and above are being well taken care of. We need to concentrate on the workhorses of our community," said Long.

The city council must still vote to approve the budget. Mayor Fred Fitch said they plan to do so as early as Tuesday.
