Operation Homefront receives generous donation

LAWTON, Okla_After nearly eight months of planning and fundraising, the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association of Lawton was finally able to give operation home front a check for five thousand dollars on Sunday.

Operation Homefront provides financial and food assistance, and help to the families of service members and wounded warriors.  It’s for that reason that the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club of Lawton worked so hard to give back so much.

Carol Herrick is the Regional Director for Operation Homefront. She says the five thousand dollars they raised will go a long way to provide support for the families in need that reach out to Operation Homefront.

"You know in every community, there are military families that sometimes struggle, and where they don't have a ready family and maybe don't have a ready community, we step in and serve as that for them,” Herrick said.

Operation home front makes it their mission to be there for military members and their family. They can help with unexpected bills, emergencies, and even help soldiers returning from war zones reintegrate to life back home. Commander of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club of Lawton, Kevin Vanliev, says it’s an organization that the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club wanted to help.

"They have given back to the military community a lot by just helping spouses and family members no matter what the situation is,” said Vanliev.

So those combat vets wanted to give back to the community and organization that has helped them in the past.

"It shows that we are basically one team, one fight. We are in it together to care for each other,” Vanliev said.

Both organizations agree that the Lawton-Fort Sill community loves its soldiers, and no matter how small or how large of a donation, every donation helps.

"Without their support we cannot do what we do and when they help us by doing events like this, it helps us be able to focus on the things we need to worry about, military families,” Herrick said.
