Jury selection starts for accused shooter

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Jury selection began Monday for a Lawton man accused of shooting a police officer last March.

Jamal Johnson is facing multiple charges including two counts of shooting with intent to kill and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Prosecutors said Johnson and Demetrius Miller tried to burglarize a house in northwest Lawton but the plan was foiled when neighbors saw them and called 911.

When police arrived, one officer was shot as many as four times.

Johnson's trial is expected to last until Wednesday; if found guilty, he could face life in prison. Miller's trial is set to start on Thursday.
