City closer to finalizing FY2015 budget

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ The City of Lawton is one step closer to finalizing a budget for the 2015 fiscal year after the public had the opportunity Tuesday night at city hall to voice any concerns.

One resident pleaded with the city council to reconsider the proposed 1.1 percent increase to Lawtonians water bills. The city is not budging, however, adding they need the additional funds in an already-strapped budget year.

One item that could change is the decision to spend $400,000 on a new roof at McMahon Auditorium. Bryan Long, city manager, is requesting that project be put off until later in the year when the city can identify for sure they have the funds they need.

Long says most of the major kinks in the budget have been worked out, and he anticipates the final budget to be approved in a special meeting June 18.
