Water Waster Report: Apartment complexes

Posted: Updated:
Amarillo, TX -
Amarillo, TX - For the last few weeks, we've shown you several businesses around town with different water related issues. This week we are taking a look at some apartment complexes.

Recent rains have created more than just a ripple of an impact on Amarillo's water usage.

According to city data, the day before rain rolled into town, over 70 million gallons were used.

However, that number dropped dramatically, averaging to around 35 million gallons used per day, during the storm.

But, there were still some places who were caught wasting water this week.

We received several photos from the Treepoint Meadows Apartments. Some showed sprinklers running during the rain, while others showed a broken sprinkler head.

When we reached out, the woman we spoke with said she was going to point out the issues to her manger right away.

We also received photos from the Newport Apartments showing a broken sprinkler head and water running into the street.

But this isn't the only water woe the complex is dealing with. The woman we spoke with said construction on a hot water leak had recently wrapped up. When we were there today, we could still see fresh dirt covering up the repairs.

As far as those broken sprinkler heads, the woman we spoke with says they are taking care of them as they are pointed out.

If you happen to see a business wasting water, let us know.

As the summer continues, some local businesses are still being caught wasting water. Whether it's a broken or misguided sprinkler head, wasting water can happen easier than some may think.
