Immigrants flooding Rio Grande Valley

McAllen, TX - For over a month, US immigration and customs enforcement has dropped off groups of families at bus stations all across the Rio Grande Valley. Volunteers are managing chaos at the McAllen central station in what is being called "The Great Central American Migration" as numbers continue to rise in the amount of unaccompanied minors immigrating illegally to the United States.

Workers at the McAllen bus station are turning away volunteers who want to drop off food for illegal immigrants. Mcallen's health department released a statement saying quote: "We support the humanitarian efforts but want to make sure the food is coming from an approved source and is safe for consumption."

The acting transit director says he is working with non-profit organizations like the Salvation Army in hopes of providing hot meals and water. Between 100 and 200 immigrants are dropped of every day and most are reconnecting with family members elsewhere. Officials have also been sending thousands of immigrants over to Arizona for processing as there is a severe backlog here in Texas.
