Lawton Food Bank and PSO team up for greater outreach

LAWTON, Okla._ Families who use the Lawton Food Bank can now get free energy-efficient light bulbs, along with their food.

The Public Service Company of Oklahoma teamed up with local home improvement businesses for the "Shine a Light" program.

For every compact fluorescent bulb sold at various businesses, PSO matched it with a donated bulb.

They started handing them out to Lawton Food Bank clients on Thursday.

Dawn Casey, PSO’s programs coordinator, said they decided to launch the program after hearing how many people are forced to choose between paying their utility bills or buying food.

"You know the food bank provides energy for the body, and we provide energy for the home so it seemed like a natural partnership. These are our neighbors, and everybody has a hard time once in a while. And it's our place to help each other, and that's why we're doing it," said Casey.

PSO has donated about 75 thousand light bulbs throughout the state of Oklahoma.
