Homeowner to torch house teetering on lake cliff

Posted: Updated:
WHITNEY, Texas (AP) _ The owner of a vacant luxury house is scheduled to set fire to it after the 75-foot cliff on which the house sits began to crumble beneath it.
The 4,000-square-foot house sits on a cliff overlooking Lake Whitney on the Brazos River about 60 miles south of Fort Worth. Tom Hemrick, Hill County's emergency management coordinator, says the owner decided to burn the house down to its slab foundation after consulting with the local demolition experts and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which owns the lake. Hemrick says the owner will then clear the charred debris onto stable land and remove the foundation slab.
The house was condemned and evacuated about two weeks ago. Tax records show it was built in 2007 and is worth more than $700,000.
