Woman arrested on allegations of stealing pain medication

Posted: Updated:

DUNCAN, Okla._The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has arrested a nurse they say was stealing prescription pain medication from a Hospice patient.

Kelly Lorene Shires was arrested by the OBN on Monday after a month-and-a-half long investigation. The investigation began when allegations of pain medication theft and fraud arose.

“Staff at Chisholm Trail Hospice contacted OBN in May to investigate Shires after allegations surfaced that she was stealing Percocet from one of her patients. We began an investigation which found evidence Shires was picking up the patients’ medication from a Jefferson County pharmacy but never providing the medication to the patient,” said OBN Spokesman Mark Woodward.

The thefts were reported to have happened between April 9 and April 15. Shires was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County jail on two counts of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance and one count of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud.

She has already bonded out.
