City reports water treatment violation

Posted: Updated:
Amarillo, TX - Amarillo water customers will be receiving a notice to inform them of a water treatment violation.

A meter that measures the pH of drinking water failed during the weekend of May 17-18.

The city says the water continued to be treated properly, and the public was never in any danger.

"We regret the error in not recording the pH levels manually while the meter was out of order," said Floyd Hartman, assistant director of utilities. "The city has since repaired the meter and re-trained employees on the manual backup system for testing pH if the meter fails again."

The public is asked to spread the word of this notice with all other customers, in particular those who may have not received the notice directly. This includes people in nursing homes, schools, apartments, and businesses.

Surface water treatment technique is regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

For more information concerning this violation, call Hartman at (806) 378-9086.
