Lawton man arrested after leading police on a chase

LAWTON, Okla._A man is in jail after leading Lawton police on a chase Tuesday night.

It all started shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when Leslie Emry took off when officers tried to pull him over for speeding and reckless driving.

Police noticed a black Mustang was speeding eastbound on Gore Boulevard and was making abrupt lane changes. When they attempted to pull over the car, the driver made a sharp turn going south on 10th Street before drifting westbound onto “A” Avenue. The Mustang then proceeded at a high rate of speed towards 11th Street. It was reported that all four tires appeared to leave the ground while he was crossing 11th Street.

When the Mustang made full contact with the road, the hood became unlatched and damaged the windshield. Police continued to chase Emry and claim he was traveling at speeds in excess of 80 mph. Eventually he crashed into a concrete barrier in the 1300 block of “A” Avenue. At that point, police say he ditched the car and ran, but officers were able to catch up to him.

Emry was arrested and booked into the Lawton city jail on charges of eluding an officer, unlawful possession of paraphernalia, speeding, making an improper turn and for outstanding warrants.
